Why Join RaiderComm?

By: Uriel Escobar

My time participating in CreateAthon inspired me to join RaiderComm this semester to the extent of working as an Account manager for CreateAthon. When I first began joining CreateAthon, I was timid over the fact that it was a 24-hour straight campaign with undergraduates like myself. I had no idea what I was walking into. As the event continued, I was met with amazing peers and fellow CoMC Students with the skills and knowledge to help throughout the event. As time continued, I grew admiration for those near me and the skills they’ve learned throughout their participation in RaiderComm; during the event, I spoke with Dr. Debbie Davis, who expanded her knowledge of media and communication for a hospital and her experiences during her time as a communication practitioner. Our client was Lubbock Children's Health Clinic, a local non-profit whose goal was to expand outreach to families needing medical necessities, food, and housing in the local Lubbock area. I was partnered with Account Manager, Sophia Bohnert and a team of other CoMC students.  We worked diligently to produce our client with a campaign that would accomplish their plans to expand outreach promptly through research, design, event planning, etc... To this day, I continue to draw inspiration from that event and the joy felt when accomplishing a demanding task with peers with the same drive and commitment to clients.  As the semester continues, my goal is to excel in my position, contributing to the growth of my team and contributing skills while gaining knowledge in public relations practices.
