Design, advertising and PR might seem all in one package; however, that’s not the case whatsoever. As a graphic designer, I was not really sure how I would fit into the communication world. But the more I got involved with my master’s program and RaiderComm, the more I could see how the two merged into each other in various ways.
It all starts with understanding people, their motivations and their desires. During my time this semester at Raider Comm, I got the chance to work with two clients. We had frequent meetings and email exchanges throughout the semester which was crucial to the projects we were working on. I got to put in my input and experience from the design world for both of these clients and realized that even if there was something I could not explain in words, my designs could get through the language barrier (It might be because English is my second language as well:).
Not only in business or school, creating an effective communication channel is crucial. I think we should not only look at communication, PR or even advertising from a ‘business’ or ‘job’ perspective; but rather as a day-to-day experience. As students, teachers and employees, we are in touch with people every day. During my undergraduate program, my professor, Carla Tedeschi, told us, “When presenting a project to the client, make sure to dress for it. Use the colors of the project or even texture”. This was a very important quote for me because how we look and how we talk communicates how much we care for the client. The same thing goes for our everyday life as well.
Overall, I am happy to experience all with RaiderComm and can’t wait for what the future holds!
