Why I Love RaiderComm

By: Lauren Estrada

Everyone has those moments in their life where you knew something was coming, but you don’t worry about it because you were expecting it... and then BOOM! Reality hits you that this is the moment to put those skills to use and your heart starts racing.

There is no going back, even if you wanted to; Only forward.

Hi, I’m Lauren. I am a 23-year-old senior at Texas Tech University majoring in Public Relations & Strategic Communication Management. While my story is about my college major, this can apply to any event or situation in your life.

So, I’ve joined RaiderComm. A nonprofit, student-run public relations (PR) organization that gives you an inside scoop of the real world. By that, I mean the real adult work world of PR. A friend of mine who graduated before I joined shared a class with me and would always talk about how wonderful RaiderComm is and how badly we should join, so I started looking into it immediately.

I am happy to say that I got to join RaiderComm this semester and have gained experience and confidence in knowing what I am doing and ensuring my clients have the best that Texas Tech University has to offer.

Experience-wise, I do have one small internship under my belt. Last fall, I interned under Don Caldwell Entertainment Industries and had a great time. That time was however cut short due to my rise in medical costs and needing to work more than an intern.  I feel that preparedness and communication skills are important in the PR field. When searching for a job, teamwork and problem-solving skills are a must.
