What I've Learned from RaiderComm

By Sydni Ellisor

My time in Raider Comm has been very insightful. This is the first time I have ever worked with real clients, and I have learned so much throughout this semester.

During my time as a student at Texas Tech, I have taken so many classes that are related to Public Relations and done many projects and assignments that have given me the skills to work with real clients, but have never actually gotten the opportunity to do so. RaiderComm has not only enhanced my skills, but given me the chance to understand and participate in what feels like a real job or internship.

I have faced many challenges, learned many things, and excelled in some new areas as well!

Some of the challenges I have experienced since being a part of RaiderComm is accepting that sometimes you will fail. Even if you work your hardest on something, the client may not always be happy or like what you have come up with, so you will have to try again. For me, this was a challenge because I don’t like to fail, and I had to teach myself to be able to accept it and try again.

I learned how important it is to communicate with people on your team and get things done on time, too. I'm not used to working in a team for a common goal, so getting used to sharing tasks and taking control of small pieces for a larger project was different for me, but I really enjoyed it. I also learned how important it is that you communicate with your client, as well as pay attention to every detail.

I've also learned that time management skills are so important. I thought I was good at managing my time, but had to rethink that when I started working with my teams. Another thing I learned was that there is always room for growth.

Overall, RaiderComm has been a great experience and I would recommend it to anybody. I enjoy every class and have loved the challenge and knowledge it has brought me. I will use the things I have learned from this agency forever!
