Take the Leap

By: Emily Jellison

As I enter my third semester of RaiderComm, I have learned so much when it comes to public relations, strategy and most of all, storytelling. As someone who genuinely loves guiding a reader through not only the creative process, but perceiving all the ambiguous meanings a client’s story has provided for myself, has been so insightful.

This last fall , I had the opportunity to attend the annual Public Relations Society of America’s International Conference in Dallas. I learned so much including crisis communication (beyond the classroom), implementing branding strategy and much more! RaiderComm has increased my confidence to go out and take the leap. Before I decided to become a member of the agency a year ago, I wasn’t involved in many organizations on campus. I knew I needed an organization that would give me the confidence and courage to try new things and learn new skills. RaiderComm has not only improved my confidence in the industry of public relations, but I have gotten the opportunity to make lasting relationships and truly connect with my peers. The RaiderComm Agency has taught me three core lessons: the key to success is to leap into your studying, you must learn how to be a follower before you become a leader and public relations has so many more layers one could ever know beyond a classroom.

I encourage anyone who is debating on joining an organization, even if it is not academic, to take the leap. There are so many opportunities that await you and one may never know what will happen if you don’t decide to jump right in.
