Relax, You'll Figure it Out

By: Mckenli Faulkner

For some people, figuring out what you want to do in your life is the easiest decision there is. They have had it figured out since high school, which is exactly the time frame that we have to figure out if we want to be happy and successful in this world, according to society. For the rest of us, when did college stop being the part of your life where you are supposed to find yourself? When did it become a trap to lure you into a job that you never wanted in the first place?

I am here to tell you that you don’t need to have it all figured out just yet. I have spent the past three years working on me, myself, and I. Did I forget to worry about my major and think about whether it is genuinely what I want to do? Maybe. I started out wanting to be a veterinarian, switched to education, and ultimately decided on communications purely because it felt like the most general major at CoMC. It can be extremely stressful when you are constantly worrying about wasting your time in the wrong major, so I felt the need to settle on something simple.

Eventually, I got to a point where I had learned enough about myself to know what my passions were and that I wanted to intertwine them with my future career so that I was proud of what I did. Then I realized that with a major like communication studies and a minor in public relations, I could do just that; Anything I want!

Entering the COMS and PR world was the best decision I ever made because it left me with freedom in my future to continue figuring things out. I may not know what the future holds just yet, but RaiderComm has given me the tools to utilize my major as I grow into my career. In a way, choosing COMS and PR has allowed me to relax and it can help you relax too!
