RaiderComm: The Best Class I've Ever Taken

By: Lauren Christian

Growing up, I never had a very clear image of what career I wanted to pursue. Nothing ever seemed to feel right. I knew that I enjoyed writing, and I needed to be doing work that I felt was important in some way. Coming to Texas Tech was a wake-up call. Something about media and communication stuck out to me; evidently, I continued down that path. There is still no clear picture, but I somehow knew that I was looking in the right place. In an effort to try and narrow my interests, I took an introductory public relations course last spring, and everything clicked! In a moment of succinct clarity, I finally felt skillfully, professionally and morally interested in a career path. I added a PRSC minor to my degree plan as quickly as I could.

After considerable research and a very helpful meeting with my advisor, RaiderComm became my next step. It truly is an honor to be a part of this class today. Dr. Davis and everyone I have met within the team have been so kind and encouraging. Plus, the team’s reputation of excellence and opportunity precedes them. I joined this class hoping to gain actual experience handling the responsibilities a real PR professional would have. There’s only so much you can learn in a theory-based class. RaiderComm offered the opportunities I needed to finally know for certain if the world of public relations was for me or not. On that note, I am thrilled to see what’s in store for the team this semester.
