RaiderComm: Round Two

Updated: Dec 1, 2023

By: Lexi Pate

After transferring to Texas Tech in my junior year, I was anxious to get involved and find a way to practice the skills I had been learning. I felt behind in my degree and lacked experience that was necessary for me to succeed in my career. However, once I learned about RaiderComm, it seemed that I had finally found the solution.

My first semester was daunting but exciting. The thought of joining a student PR agency and working with real clients fresh off the boat was nerve-wracking. I worried that I had decided to bite off more than I could chew—but it was the best decision I could have made.

I had the privilege of working on the internal RaiderComm and University Rec Center’s account teams. This experience was incredibly insightful and expanding, because while I practiced skills I acquired from my previous courses, I became equipped with new ones along the way! Some of these skills include conducting professional client relations, effective communication, social media content creation, research, and project management.

The experience and skillset I have received from being a part of RaiderComm are only the tip of the iceberg. Being involved in a student agency has not only allowed me to mirror what a “real job” feels like, but also network and connect with alumni, faculty, and my classmates. I have created both professional and personal relationships with the people I work with, and that feeling of community takes the cake.

Returning to RaiderComm for a second semester has been so exciting! I have loved getting to learn in this environment that has become another home to me. We've grown as a team and served our clients with determination, passion and creativity! It has been a successful semester in my book.
