RaiderComm Isn't Just for PR Majors

By: Avery Frazier

First, let me introduce myself and my college major journey.

Hi, my name is Avery Frazier, and like any college transfer student, I’ve changed my major a couple of times. My dream job is and was always to be a social media manager for hospitality or tourism. So, I started as a strategic communications major with an emphasis in public relations at Kansas State University, but when I transferred to Texas Tech, I learned about the different careers that are possible for College of Media and Communication graduates. My advisor on my campus tour had me select all the jobs I could see myself doing and then pointed me in the direction of creative media industries, so here I am with my creative industries major in my last year as a Texas Tech student.

The next issue came when looking for social media manager positions. It all came back to PR agencies, so I began to look at public relations again. While public relations isn’t specifically focused on content strategy and planning, it does give great insight into teams and account management, which is why I was drawn to RaiderComm. RaiderComm offers hands-on experience working with clients and teams along with project management. While it is my first semester in RaiderComm, the experience I will gain from this experience will boost my professional skills for when I graduate and enter the real world. While this experience is publicrelations based, it is a fantastic opportunity for any communications student who wishes to gain agency experience, learn about team and project management and grow professionally before graduating and entering the workforce. Maybe this experience can give you the boost you need to land your dream job in whatever industry you pursue, as it has been for me.
