RaiderComm from a Senior’s Perspective

Updated: Feb 25, 2022

By Naomi Pacheco

Have you ever talked to another classmate about the struggles of getting experience on your resume, and they seem to have everything put together? Making you feel behind in life, wondering how to get to that level? Well, I have a simple solution to your problem. RaiderComm, our student-run public relations agency.

RaiderComm is a great class and an overall great experience. As a senior who is about to graduate this semester, I'm here to tell you that you will regret not taking this class or you will regret not taking it sooner.

Even if you feel you don’t have the right skills or it feels too overwhelming, don’t stress. You will do some light homework about what your interest and skills are before the class kicks off. This is to gauge your skill set and allow you to join a team that best fits you.

You really don’t need to be perfect at everything public relations related. We all have our own strengths and weaknesses. This class allows you to do what you are good at while working with others on things you might not be good at. As we all know, teamwork makes the dream work.

As long as you put in the time to do your assignments for the week, you will be fine. Time management might be the “hardest” aspect of this class in my opinion. To me, though I see this as a great problem to have, learning and actually implementing time management will be useful for the rest of your life.

Stepping out of your comfort zone can bring many opportunities; joining RaiderComm is a perfect example of this. Getting agency experience while getting class credit is nothing but a win-win situation in my book. If you still are unsure, this is your sign to go for it.

Best of luck to my fellow Red Raiders not only for this semester, but for the rest of your academic career.
