Come up with your main ideas.
The brainstorming segment is arguably the most important during a project. Jot everything that comes to mind. Sometimes, the first idea falls through, so you need other ideas to fall back on. You never know when you’ll need it!
Write your first draft
Once you have chosen your main idea, write down your main points. It doesn’t necessarily have to be pretty. It just has to be legible. I usually write down my main points first before writing everything down. It’s better to know the direction of the idea instead of writing everything. That way, you won’t have a complete mess to edit.
Step Away
Forget what I said about brainstorming being the most important. This step is the most important! When you step away, you give your brain time to recharge. Some days your writing is redundant, or you can’t find the right synonym. Time away from the project is your key to variety.
Edit, edit, edit!
This portion is basically polishing your writing. You are probably sick of writing, but once you re-review your document, you will want to change everything. Refrain yourself. Instead, read each line and make sure it flows correctly. Check for spelling and punctuation errors. You want this document to make sense to everyone at this point.
Have someone else review it
Sometimes, having a refreshed brain doesn’t cut it. This is when you have someone else review everything. Another person may have trouble reading a sentence or have a completely different view of the paper. Find someone you can rely on to make sure this paper sounds incredible. The key is making changes to make your writing flow.
Edit again
You know the drill. However, this time is extra meticulous so that you don’t miss anything. Sometimes errors are hiding in plain sight.
