Heavy is the Head That Wears the Cap and Gown

By: Lexi Pate

Let’s face it. College is stressful! There are dozens of requirements, expectations and decisions involved. What’s supposed to be four years of newfound freedom and exciting adventures can be easily bogged down with the weight of what’s to come.

That’s how it started for me, at least.

After graduating high school in 2020, I had no idea what I wanted to do or be. I was bombarded with questions about my plans after walking the stage and moving my tassel. I would answer with halfhearted ideas about my future. Maybe I’d end up in education or studying english... but those options never felt like a reality.

That fall, I enrolled in Midland College as a general studies major.

The questions relented, and I became more at ease in my new role as a college student. I figured that as I navigated my way through school, I’d begin to explore my options and see where my interests led me. However, I certainly didn’t expect them to lead me to Texas Tech.

I quickly found my place in the PRSC department. I finally felt like I had “fit” somewhere. I had found a place where all my interests worked together... a major that would lead me to a career that I would sincerely enjoy, so when I learned about RaiderComm, I jumped in!

As exciting as it was to find a major that I love, I wanted to be certain that I became confident in it too. RaiderComm will allow me that opportunity. In working with the agency, I am getting an inside look at what my future will look like someday, and that is an opportunity that I do not take lightly. I believe that what I learn these next few semesters will be instrumental for my future in this field.

And now, I get to answer those questions with assurance! And RaiderComm was one that I didn’t have to think twice about.
