Presenting is an experience we all embark on, no matter who you are. Many people struggle with making presentations early in their careers, whether for group projects, sales pitches or job interviews. Mastering these skills is crucial in the field of public relations.
CFOs, CEOs, directors, managers and others all started just like us. Learning to present can be daunting as you face the fear of speaking in front of a larger audience.
During my back-to-back semesters at RaiderComm, I have had numerous opportunities to improve in this area more than in any other class. The supportive environment, with mentors and peers always ready to lend a hand, has been instrumental in my growth. RaiderComm is a space that allows students to discover their strengths in presenting.
My biggest struggle leading up to any presentation is the uncontrollable anxiety that leads to a foggy mind and stuttering; however, what helps me in these difficult moments is taking a step back and confidently approaching the presentation. The material I have worked on for days or hours is not just information; it's valuable insights that the audience deserves to hear. Studying key points and rehearsing the presentation with peers goes a long way in understanding that the presentation is not about reading directly from the slides but about connecting with the audience and creating a natural flow from point to point, showcasing the value I bring to them.
Your body language and attire allow you to be confident in these settings, and they have been the critical difference that has set me apart from the old me, who would fall headfirst into a spiral of my presentation struggles.
That said, I don’t claim to be an expert; there’s still an extensive period before I could claim that title, but RaiderComm gives anyone the stepping stones to walk into the shoes of being a leading successful presentation, so BOOM BAM.
