After completing my first semester in RaiderComm, I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience about the public relations environment and what could be expected from me when I get future jobs.
In my first semester in RaiderComm, I was a content creator for UREC, the recreation center at Texas Tech. I attended many intramural sporting events, ranging from flag football to a wipeout obstacle course event. I enjoyed watching the games and capturing many great moments and plays of the sporting events to create social media posts and highlight videos. It helped me build upon many skills like content creation, video editing and time management, which are valuable skills for PR practitioners.
My second client was a local nonprofit, Kat’s Alley Cats, committed to helping fight the overpopulation of feral cats in Lubbock. I helped by researching new content strategies to aid the content creators in creating social media content to build awareness of the cause. I had a great time scouring social media platforms, tracking all the new trends among users and learning new ideas through researching what other organizations did and what worked for them. I enjoyed working with this client because it was so different than my first client, which gave me an insight into both aspects of a client: exciting and serious.
I’ve loved my experience in RaiderComm and getting to know my clients and peers. It helped build interpersonal communications by working in different teams and building relationships with incredible people. All of these skills have guided me to become the best PR practitioner I can be by introducing me to the fundamental criteria for success in this industry.
