5 Ways to Ace Your Classes This Semester (From a RaiderComm Senior)

Updated: Feb 25, 2022

By Allison Rodriguez

Red Raiders, we are officially one month into the semester and syllabus week is far gone. However, there is still plenty of time to make excellent grades in your new classes! By incorporating organization and healthy habits into your everyday schedule, you will be amazed at how your grades skyrocket, but more importantly, how your mental health improves.

Follow these five steps and watch the magic happen!

Make Note of Every Single Due Date Being a college student is difficult in many ways, but remembering to turn in hundreds of assignments throughout the course of a few months probably takes the cake. One of the best ways to do this is to comb over each class syllabus and write down every due date into a planner or calendar. I know what you’re thinking…It may seem like a drag, but in the long run, it is worth it. I recommend making an event out of it and purchasing a customized planner for the year (but that’s just me). Map Out Your Study and Free Time From internships, to work, to clubs, to classes, every Tech student struggles to have enough hours in the day. It’s tempting to disregard your need for free time and plug through hours and hours of studying with no breaks, but please don’t. As someone who has tried this method, I can tell you that extreme burnout is inevitable. Instead, plan out the hours in a day in which you plan to study and then plan out the hours when you will have fun or just relax. Trust me, your body and mind will thank you for it. Write Down Your Top 3 To-Do’s for the Day It can be overwhelming to think about all of the responsibilities you need to tackle in one day, and at times, it seems impossible to start. To avoid a complete meltdown, simply write down the 3 most important things you need to do that day and focus on completing those tasks first. After marking those off of your list, you can continue to work, or be satisfied that you accomplished 3 pressing to-do’s. Go to Class This may seem like an obvious step, but if you don’t necessarily love the course content or the professor, it could be a drudge to roll out of bed and trek across campus to attend an hour class. If it’s not enough that many classes factor attendance into the final student grade, then show up because studies have shown that attending class is a strong predictor of student success. Long story short, if you want good grades, go to class! Get Enough Sleep Our bodies need sleep; it is a scientific fact. When you are trying to balance being a

good student, friend, club member, employee, intern, etc., being well rested is essential. As a college student, you should aim for AT LEAST 6 hours of sleep. These 6 hours are non-negotiable, the others are just a cherry on top to a great day. Let me know if these steps help you out this semester and as always, wreck ‘em!
