Applying for RC

Updated: Mar 6

By: Brandy Perry

Last semester, as I was scrolling through the CoMC Instagram, RaiderComm popped up on my radar for the first time. Though it piqued my interest, I didn’t think much of it because I didn’t think it was something for a communication studies major like myself.

However, the post stressed that it was open to ALL CoMC students, so I filled out the interest form online to reserve my spot at their open house. Dr. Davis emailed me detailing what to expect at the open house, more information about RaiderComm and the criteria to take the course.

I would be lying to you if I said the food at the open house wasn’t my main motivator, but my takeaway from that night was that RaiderComm seemed like a fun and beneficial experience. We were shown a presentation about all that RaiderComm has to offer its members. Then, the class came in, and we got to see what a typical RaiderComm class/agency meeting looked like. They reiterated that they were open to all CoMC majors and encouraged everyone to apply to join. Last I checked, everyone included me, so I figured that I might as well apply.

I applied, filled out a survey, did a quick and easy interview and a week later I was in. Now, only a little over a month into the semester, it feels like I’ve been here forever in the best way. Dr. Davis and the leadership team made all of us newbies feel welcome and comfortable so quickly I forgot that this is my first semester here.

And now I’m here, and you’re reading my blog on my agency’s website.

If you would like to be in my shoes for the Fall 2024 semester, here’s how you’ll do it:

Step 1: Attend RaiderComm’s Open House.

While it is not required to attend before applying for a spot on the RaiderComm team, I highly recommend attending open house. How often do you get to have a sneak peek at your future co-workers before you even get an interview? Or get to gauge the vibes of a class before taking it? I haven’t even mentioned the free food yet! Come hang out with us if you can, and if you can’t, you can still apply, and anyone on the RaiderComm team will be happy to answer your questions at any time.

Step 2: Meet with your adviser and apply.

Make sure that RaiderComm fits into your degree plan, and submit your application. The application is online and is just a few brief questions. No weird AI alien giving you a 20-minute personality test.

Step 3: Schedule your interview.

After submitting your application, a member of the agency leadership team will contact you to schedule an interview.

Step 4: Interview time!

What usually seems like the worst part about applying for a job, the interviews for RaiderComm feel more like having a conversation with classmates.

Step 5: Wait for RaiderComm to contact you.

Just like any class or job, there is a limited number of spots available. Luckily, RaiderComm is great at responding to applicants fast, so students have ample time to plan out their next semester.

See how easy that was? If I could do it, so can you. If you ever feel like you can’t, you have a whole team of peers and mentors to tell you otherwise.

Joining RaiderComm is almost effortless and is highly beneficial to any and all CoMC majors. No matter your educational and professional background, you have something that we need. Now that you know what to do, make sure to keep an eye out for the next open house so you can hang out with us. We look forward to meeting you!
